Since previous studies suggest a relationship between motor and cognitive development in children, a research was conducted in order to examine the differences in motor skills of children with different levels of intellectual ability. In a sample of 88 respondents, boys and girls aged 7, an assessment of motor skills was performed by using the battery of seven motor tests and assessment of intellectual abilities by using the test of Raven’s Coloured Progressive Matrices. Respondents were divided into three groups according to the results of the test. The MANOVA showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the area of motor abilities of children of different intellectual levels, but there were differences at the univariate level regarding the tests Hand tapping and Seat-and-Reach

The primary purpose of risk assessment is preventive observation and to prevent work-related injuries, occupational diseases, and all other work-related illnesses. It is known that occupational safety and health is an integral and non-separable part of the organization of work and the performance of all work processes. It is achieved through the application of safety measures at work, prescribed, contracted and in practice enforced by security measures that have undergone their application and verification. This is in a word a set of activities that define workplace safety. The application of risk assessment directly affects safety and health and the protection of the working and environment. Primenom procene rizika direktno se utiče na bezbednost i zdravlje i zaštitu radne i životne sredine

    Scheduling Dynamic Parallelism On Accelerators

    Get PDF
Resource management on accelerator based systems is complicated by the disjoint nature of the main CPU and accelerator, which involves separate memory hierarhcies, different degrees of parallelism, and relatively high cost of communicating between them. For applications with irregular parallelism, where work is dynamically created based on other computations, the accelerators may both consume and produce work. To maintain load balance, the accelerators hand work back to the CPU to be scheduled. In this paper we consider multiple approaches for such scheduling problems and use the Cell BE system to demonstrate the different schedulers and the trade-offs between them. Our evaluation is done with both microbenchmarks and two bioinformatics applications (PBPI and RAxML). Our baseline approach uses a standard Linux scheduler on the CPU, possibly with more than one process per CPU. We then consider the addition of cooperative scheduling to the Linux kernel and a user-level work-stealing approach. The two cooperative approaches are able to decrease SPE idle time, by 30 % and 70%, respectively, relative to the baseline scheduler. In both cases we believe the changes required to application level codes, e.g., a program written with MPI processes that use accelerator based compute nodes, is reasonable, although the kernel level approach provides more generality and ease of implementation, but often less performance than work stealing approach

Measuring of morphological characteristics and motor abilities was performed on the sample of 51 male students of the secondary traffic school “Pinki” from Novi Sad. Body height and body mass were used for measuring of morphological characteristics, and results of standing long jump and running at 30 meters with standing start were used for measuring of motor abilities. The body mass index was calculated after the results were obtained. The aims of the study were to establish and analyze differences in the results of morphological status and explosive strength of students measured in different periods, in the first measurement when the subjects were 15 years old and in the second measurement when the subjects were 17 years old. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA. The obtained results indicate the existence of statistically significant differences between first and second measurement in all morphological characteristics and motor abilities, at the level of significance of p<0.05.A significant increase in morphological characteristics and motor abilities with age, indicating that boys have adequate growth and development for their age.The age factor has a significantly stronger influence than the factor of the curriculum for the physical education in this high school

Rosemary essential oils as a promising source of bioactive compounds: Chemical composition, thermal properties, biological activity, and gastronomical perspectives

    Get PDF
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.) is a plant worldwide cultivated mainly for essential oils, extracts, and as a spice. Up-to-date results showed diversity in composition of the essential oils, which may influence their quality, biological activity, and thermal properties. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the chemical composition, antimicrobial activity, and thermal properties of the rosemary essential oils originating from Serbia and Russia. Additionally, oils were added to the sunflower oils in order to investigate possible antioxidant activity during the frying. Investigation of the chemical profile marked α-pinene, eucalyptol, and camphor as the most abundant compounds in both oils. However, overall composition influenced in such manner that Russian oil showed significantly higher antimicrobial activity, while Serbian oil proved to be better antioxidant agent in case of frying of sunflower oil. This would significantly influence possible application of the oils, which could be used as an antioxidant agent for extension of the food shelf life, or antimicrobial agent for protection against different microbial strains

Medicinal plants have widely been used as a natural source of remedies for treating several diseases, including colorectal cancer. Ocimum minimum L. is a very important dietary plant used in traditional and modern medicine, due to its health beneficial effect realized by cytotoxic, proapoptotic, antioxidant/prooxidant, antiviral and antimicrobial activity. The biological activity of O. minimum flowers has been evaluated in HCT116 colorectal carcinoma cells through antiproliferative activity by MTT assay, pro-apoptotic activity by AO/EB and concentrations of redox status parameters (O2∙ and lipid peroxidation) by colorimetric methods. The protein expression of iNOS was analyzed by immunocytochemistry, while the antimigratory effect was measured by xCELLigence system. The treatment with O. minimum shows the antiproliferative, proapoptotic, impact on redox status parameters and antimigratory effect on HCT-116 cells. Based on obtained results, the pharmacological effect of O. minimum is evident against HCT-116 colorectal carcinoma cells, suggesting that this plant may be good start material for future anticancer therapy investigation.Publishe

The humanised CYP2C19 transgenic mouse exhibits cerebellar atrophy and movement impairment reminiscent of ataxia

Aims: CYP2C19 transgenic mouse expresses the human CYP2C19 gene in the liver and developing brain, and it exhibits altered neurodevelopment associated with impairments in emotionality and locomotion. Because the validation of new animal models is essential for the understanding of the aetiology and pathophysiology of movement disorders, the objective was to characterise motoric phenotype in CYP2C19 transgenic mice and to investigate its validity as a new animal model of ataxia. Methods: The rotarod, paw-print and beam-walking tests were utilised to characterise the motoric phenotype. The volumes of 20 brain regions in CYP2C19 transgenic and wild-type mice were quantified by 9.4T gadolinium-enhanced post-mortem structural neuroimaging. Antioxidative enzymatic activity was quantified biochemically. Dopaminergic alterations were characterised by chromatographic quantification of concentrations of dopamine and its metabolites and by subsequent immunohistochemical analyses. The beam-walking test was repeated after the treatment with dopamine receptor antagonists ecopipam and raclopride. Results: CYP2C19 transgenic mice exhibit abnormal, unilateral ataxia-like gait, clasping reflex and 5.6-fold more paw-slips in the beam-walking test; the motoric phenotype was more pronounced in youth. Transgenic mice exhibited a profound reduction of 12% in cerebellar volume and a moderate reduction of 4% in hippocampal volume; both regions exhibited an increased antioxidative enzyme activity. CYP2C19 mice were hyperdopaminergic; however, the motoric impairment was not ameliorated by dopamine receptor antagonists, and there was no alteration in the number of midbrain dopaminergic neurons in CYP2C19 mice. Conclusions: Humanised CYP2C19 transgenic mice exhibit altered gait and functional motoric impairments; this phenotype is likely caused by an aberrant cerebellar development
